David Robarge (au)
After President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas on November 22, 1964, many conspiracy theories arose which denied that sniper Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone and claimed that the CIA was involved. This declassified 2013 report by a CIA historian shows that the CIA knew more about this event than it has previously admitted. The report states that CIA Director John McCone withheld important information from President Johnsonńˇ╗s ńˇýCommission on the Assassination of President KennedyńˇŁ (the ńˇýWarren CommissionńˇŁ), and that top agency officials were part of a ńˇýbenign cover-up.ńˇŁ According to the report, the CIA acknowledges that McCone and other high-ranking CIA officials kept some information from the investigation, much of which may have shown what Oswald was doing and the people he was associating with prior to the assassination; and that the CIA decided to tell the Warren Commission only the ńˇýbest truthńˇŁ about Oswald.
