The Older Americans Act of 1965 (OAA) was enacted to, among other things, help older adults remain in their homes and communities. Programs authorized and funded by OAA Title III grants provide assistance to older adults, including congregate and home-delivered meals, home-based care, and transportation services. All people age 60 and older are eligible for services. In FY 2014, approx. $1.156 billion was provided in grants to states for home and community-based services. As Congress considers reauthorization of the OAA, if current trends continue, the number of adults who need these services may continue to increase with the retirement of the baby boom generation. This report examines what is known about older Americansäó» reported need for home and community-based services like those funded by the OAA and the potential unmet need for these services. Tables. This is a print on demand report.
