Wage Impact of Undocumented Workers (UW)
Julie L. Hotchkiss (au); Myriam Quispe-Agnoli (au); Fernando Rios-Avila (au)
Concerns surrounding immigration are rooted in an expectation that the arrival of new workers into a labor market would displace native workers and/or put downward pressure on wages. This study investigates the impact on wages of the presence of a specific class of immigrants -- UW. This study, from the state of Georgia, finds that a documented worker employed by a firm that hires UW can expect to earn 0.15% less than if employed by a firm that does not hire UW. However, in sectors where there are opportunities for task specialization and benefits from commun. skills, documented workers can expect to earn a wage premium of less than 1% from being employed at a firm that also hires UW. Charts and tables. This is a print on demand report.
