Agricultural Conservation: State Advisory Committees’ Views on How USDA Programs Could Better Address Environmental Concerns

Farmers, ranchers, & private forest landowners own & manage more than 2/3 of the continental U.S.’ 1.9 billion acres & thus are the primary stewards of our soil, water, & wildlife habitat. Some USDA programs are advised by state technical committees (TC). This report obtains the views of members of state TC on: (1) the effectiveness of USDA’s conservation efforts in addressing environ’l. concerns related to ag., & (2) any program elements that hinder the achievement of environ’l. objectives related to ag., as well as program characteristics that current or new programs might include to better meet these objectives.
