Plethysmography: Safety, Effectiveness, & Clinical Utility in Diagnosing Vascular Disease
Thomas V. Holohan (au). Plethysmography, a semi quantitative method of measuring segmental blood flow & velocity in the carotid & peripheral vascular systems, is safe, easy to perform, & inexpensive. Impedance, strain guage, air, & photoelectric plethysmographic methods are assessed for their relative safety, efficacy, & clinical utility in diagnosing vascular disease. Impedance, strain guage, & photoplethysmography methods can be used for the initial eval. of acute & chronic venous insufficiency, although these tests are not reliable in predicting venous disease in the presence of nonobstructive thrombi & comorbid conditions.
