Description
Susan F. Hodgson. Discusses events at The Geysers Geothermal Field in Northern California through 5 eras of geothermal history. Centuries ago in the 1st era, the field was an untouched wilderness. In the 2nd era about 12,000 years ago, Indians came to The Geysers & cooked with the steam & hot water & bathed in the pools. The 3rd era, between 1848 & 1954, was marked by the age of organized tourism. The 1920s saw the 4th era, the first electrical generation from geothermal steam in the U.S. In 1955 the first modern geothermal well was drilled at The Geysers, heralding the 5th era in the field, the age of large-scale electrical generation. B&W photos.
