City alone, about 100,000 people may have lost their income as a result of these events. Fed., state, & local govíts. responded to this disaster in a variety of ways & private charities also provided aid. This report determines: the amt. of donations that charities raised to assist Sept. 11 survivors, & the assist. made avail. to them; accountability measures in place to ensure that only eligible individuals received aid, & what is known about fraud committed by org. & individuals; what coor. efforts have been pursued in response to the disaster; & what lessons can be learned about how to best dist. charitable aid in similar situations.
