The U.S. system of paying for healthcare leaves 46 million people without insurance -- vulnerable to devastating medical bills or untreated conditions. Calif. is home to 5 million of the uninsured. Their plight, together with the erosion of coverage for many others, has prompted an intense effort in the Calif. legislature in 2007 to find a solution to the healthcare crisis. A central issue in the debate is the level of participation by employers in providing employee health insurance. This study examines the current status of employer-provided health insurance in the state.
