Spirituality: The DNA of Law Enforcement Practice: A Reprint from “FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin”
Samuel L. Feemster (au)
Discusses the acute need for those in the law enforcement (LE) profession, as well as the communities they protect, to recognize the nexus between intentional care of the body & spirit & survival of those charged with enforcing our laws. LE officers are exposed to toxic situations that adversely affect their bodies, their minds, &, most of all, their spirits. This unrelenting exposure to evil doers & the scenes of their crimes critically impacts officers’ abilities to perform their duties. This article acknowledges the link between spirituality & LE to enable its embrace within the profession. It is time for the LE community to begin a dialogue that recognizes the humanness of officers & the tragic consequences that can occur when the toxicity they face on a daily basis overtakes them.
