Description
Much of the America’s 6,000 miles of international borders with Canada and Mexico remains vulnerable to illegal entry of aliens, criminals, and cargo. The Dept. of Homeland Security apprehends hundreds of thousands of people and seizes large volumes of cargo entering the country illegally. However, individuals and an unknown volume of contraband also enter the U.S. illegally and undetected. In 11/05, the Secure Border Initiative (SBI) was announced, a multiyear, multibillion-dollar program aimed at securing U.S. borders and reducing illegal immigration. This report addresses the construction costs of primary and secondary pedestrian and vehicle fencing miles completed under the SBI program as of 9/30/07, and 10/31/08.
