Plot, The: The Secret Story of the Protocol of the Elders of Zion
Will Eisner (au); Umberto Eco (in)
Born in 1917, Eisner was one of the greatest pioneers of 20th-cent. graphic art. “The Plot” was his first book of graphic history. The “Protocol” supposedly contains the “Jewish plan” for conquering the world. That this fake, as Umberto Eco explains in his Intro., “was produced by a number of secret services and police of 3 countries assembled from a collage of different texts, is by now a well-known fact -- and Will Eisner tells it in full.” Eisner explains that “For me, ‘The Plot’ marks an effort to employ this powerful medium to address a matter of immense personal concern,” as his parents were Jewish-Amer. immigrants and he himself experienced prejudice against Jews. “I became interested in the devices that anti-Semites used to promote their message.”
