Description
When artist Julie Bozzi took her first trip across the U.S. by car she decided to focus her art on one topic: food. The food she wished to described was the food of restaurants, supermarkets, and advertising rather than of the home and cookbook. This pub. shows the art work she created in a cabinet; each drawer represents a specific category of American food. Some groups, such as cold cereal and donuts, were invented here. Other categories, such as breakfast and special occasion food, have a cultural uniqueness only when viewed collectively. Other categories include ca) and Ethnic-American” cuisine. This project is about food as product, subject to stylization, mutation, and obsolescence. Each drawer is shown in a full-page color photo.
