Description
Su Ann Oh (il). A collection of 23 folk tales from Iraq which are translated from the vernacular. Until the beginning of this century, storytelling was part of cultural life in Iraq. Male story-tellers, known as Qassakhoon, would tell their tales in coffee-houses & female story-tellers would tell them inside the house to the women & children. However, the art is now dead in Iraq as cinema & TV have taken over. Collecting some of these stories & presenting them for the reader may help in preserving them. The book includes an introduction & a glossary of words such as common expressions in colloquial Arabic in Iraq & the mythological figures.
