Body on the Beach: A Fethering Mystery
Simon Brett (au). Takes place in the English seaside village of Fethering. Carole Seddon is recently retired from the Home Office & living in Fethering. Residing in the cottage she purchased with her ex-husband, she maintains a quiet life with the companionship of Gulliver, her Labrador retriever. Her bohemian neighbor, Jude, has an outgoing personality which contrasts with that of the prim & proper Carole. One day she discovers a dead body on the beach, with two neck wounds. But later, the police are unable to find the body, & dismiss Carole as a befuddled middle-aged woman. Unable to contain her anxiety, Carole confides what happened to Jude -- who suggests that if the police cannot be bothered to catch a killer, then they should do it themselves.
