Description

Audit report concerning the Calif. Dept. of Technologyäó»s (CalTech) oversight of the execution stage of info. tech. (IT) projects. The State has a history of failed IT projects -- between 1994 and 2013, for ex., it terminated or suspended seven IT projects after spending almost $1 billion. Currently, the State has 45 projects under development with a reported cost of more than $4 billion that are subject to oversight by CalTech. Six of these projects with total costs of over $575 million have problems that are negatively impacting the projectäó»s progress, which could result in delays and cost overruns. This report discusses the challenges that CalTech faces in pursuing effective oversight. Because of the needed improvements discussed in this report and the negative impact to the StatesäóÖs fiscal health when IT projects fail, the Calif. State Auditor will continue to designate IT project oversight as a high-risk issue. Figures and tables. This is a print on demand report.
