GAO: Summary of Performance and Financial Information: Fiscal Year 2014
Gene L. Dodaro (au)
The Government Accountability Office (GAO), the audit, evaluation, and investigative arm of the Congress, supports the Congress in meeting its constitutional responsibilities and helps improve the performance and ensure the accountability of the federal government for the benefit of the American people. GAO examines the use of public funds; evaluates federal programs and policies; and provides analyses, recommendations, and other assistance to help the Congress make informed oversight, policy, and funding decisions. This report presents the highlights of GAOńˇ╗s FY 2014 Performance and Accountability Report. GAO identified $54.4 billion in financial benefits for the federal government -- a return of about $100 for every dollar spent -- and 1,288 improvements in broad program and operational areas across the government. Federal agencies or the Congress implemented 78% of GAOńˇ╗s recommendations (2 percentage points short of GAOńˇ╗s target). Figures and tables. This is a print on demand report.
