DHS Has Not Effectively Managed Pandemic Personal Protective Equipment and Antiviral Medical Countermeasures
John Roth (au)
The Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) supports efforts to develop and execute pandemic contingency plans and preparedness actions as part of the U.S. Governmentäó»s pandemic preparedness strategy. It is DHSäó» responsibility to ensure it is adequately prepared to continue critical operations in the event of a pandemic. In 2006, Congress appropriated $47 million in supplemental funding to DHS for necessary expenses to plan, train, and prepare for a potential pandemic. DHS and components purchased personal protective equipment and medical countermeasures (specifically, antiviral medial countermeasures). This audit report determined that DHS did not adequately conduct a needs assessment prior to purchasing pandemic preparedness supplies and then did not effectively manage its stockpile of pandemic personal protective equipment and antiviral medical countermeasures. Includes recommendations. Figures and tables. This is a print on demand report.
