The U.S. Dept. of Defense (DOD) supplies weapons to the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) as part of international efforts to train and equip the Afghan National Army and the Afghan National Police. DOD has provided over 747,000 weapons and auxiliary equipment valued at approx. $626 million to the ANSF since 2004, including over 465,000 small arms -- weapons such as rifles, pistols, machine guns, grenade launchers, and shotguns. The Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan (CSTC-A) is the primary DOD component responsible for overseeing the delivery and transfer of weapons to the ANSF. It works with the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) to acquire these weapons. This audit focuses on DODäó»s procedures to account for weapons provided to the ANSF. Tables and figure.
