Childrenäó»s Health Insurance: Information on Coverage of Services, Costs to Consumers, and Access to Care in CHIP and Other Sources of Insurance
Katherine M. Iritani (au)
In 2012 more than 8 million children were enrolled in the Childrenäó»s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), the federal and state childrenäó»s health program that finances health care for certain low-income children. Funding was appropriated for CHIP through federal FY 2015. Beginning in Oct. 2015, any state with insufficient CHIP funding must establish procedures to ensure that children who are not covered by CHIP are screened for Medicaid eligibility, and if ineligible, are enrolled into a Qualified Health Plan (QHP) that has been certified by the Sec. of Health and Human Services (HHS) as comparable to CHIP. Exchanges are marketplaces for QHP coverage effective in 2014. This report provides a baseline comparison of coverage and costs to consumers in separate CHIP plans and benchmark plans in select states; describes how coverage and costs might change in 2014; and describes how access to care by CHIP children compares to other children nationwide. Tables and figure. This is a print on demand report.
