Description

Information technology (IT) plays a critical role in enabling the Transportation Security Admin. (TSA) to accomplish its mission. In 2007, it was reported that TSA did not manage and apply IT effectively to accomplish its mission objectives. This follow-up audit was conducted to determine TSAäó»s progress in establishing key IT management capabilities to support mission needs. The TSA Chief Information Officer (CIO) has established key IT management capabilities to support TSAäó»s mission. Not all IT procurements, however, have gone through the IT acquisition review process because they were not categorized as IT procurements. TSAäó»s IT systems do not provide the full functionality needed to support its mission due to challenges with TSAäó»s requirements gathering process. In addition, IT support roles are not well defined or communicated, and the number of IT support staff is not sufficient at certain field sites. Some field sites detailed employees from operational areas to fill in gaps in IT support, which reduced the number of staff available to serve at security checkpoints. Includes recommendations. Figures. This is a print on demand report.
