Rising Grain Exports by the Former Soviet Union Region
Olga Liefert (au); William Liefert (au); Eric Luebehusen (au)
The three major grain-producing countries of the former Soviet Union -- Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan -- have become a large grain-exporting region. During 2006-11, grain exports by the three countries together averaged 41 million metric tons a year, about 14% of the world total (including rice). This report shows that according to projections, by 2021 these three countries will provide 22% of the worldńˇ╗s grain exports. Russiańˇ╗s wheat exports alone are projected to almost equal those of the U.S., and total wheat exports by Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan will exceed those of the U.S. This report examines why this has happened and also provides the outlook for the regionńˇ╗s production and exports over the next 10 years. Figures and tables. This is a print on demand report.
