Health Effects of Chernobyl: 25 Years after the Reactor Catastrophe
Henrik Paulitz (au); Angelika Claussen (au); Inge Schmitz-Feuerhake (au)
This study evaluates studies that contain plausible indications of health damage caused by the Chernobyl catastrophe. The authors attach importance to the selection of methodically accurate and comprehensible analyses. Due to methodical difficulties, it is not their aim to present the šůžrightšůĚ statistics in contrast to the obviously wrong ones given by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), since these can never be found. They can only supply indications as to the diversity and extent of the health effects that should be dealt with when talking about the health effects of Chernobyl. Contents of this study: Introduction; Liquidators; Infant Mortality; Genetic and Teratogenic Damage (Malformations); Thyroid Cancer and Other Thyroid Diseases: All Cancers and Leukaemia; Other Illnesses Following Chernobyl. The report concludes that there is a high mortality and morbidity rate among people who were exposed to high radiation levels, and an extremely dramatic rate of non-cancerous diseases. Most of the effects of the genetic defects caused by Chernobyl will not become apparent until the second or third generation. Figures and tables. This is a print on demand report.
