Defending Childhood: Protect, Heal, Thrive: Report of the Attorney Generaläó»s National Task Force on Children Exposed to Violence
Robet Listenbee (ed); Joe Torre (ed)
Exposure to violence is a national crisis. Of the 76 million children currently residing in the U.S., an estimated 46 million have had their lives touched by violence, crime, abuse, and psychological trauma in 2012. In 1979, U.S. Surgeon General Julius B. Richmond declared violence a public health crisis of the highest priority, and yet 33 years later that crisis remains. The Attorney General's Task Force on Children Exposed to Violence has released its final recommendations for a national response to address childrenäó»s exposure to violence. This report emphasizes prevention and intervention and underscores the importance of trauma-informed care and victim-tailored services. The task force calls on the federal government, states, tribes, and communities to ensure that all children exposed to violence are identified, screened, and assessed; to create multidisciplinary councils to facilitate systemwide collaboration; to involve men and boys as critical partners in preventing violence; and to help, not punish, child victims of sex trafficking. This is a print on demand report.
