Effects of Federal Tax Credits for the Purchase of Electric Vehicles
Ron Gecan (au)
The federal government has adopted several policies to encourage the production and purchase of electric vehicles, which run partly or entirely on electric power stored in a battery that can be recharged from a standard home outlet. Such vehicles were reintroduced commercially in the U.S. late in 2010. This report focuses on two broad classes of electric vehicles: plug-in hybrid vehicles, and all-electric (battery electric) vehicles. Contents: Electric Vehicles and Government Policies That Support Them; Using Federal Tax Credits to Promote Sales of Electric Vehicles; Using Federal Tax Credits for Electric Vehicles to Address Energy and Environmental Goals; Comparing the Tax Credits with Other Recent Subsidy Programs in the Transportation Sector; Possible Approaches for Future Policies. Tables and figures. This is a print on demand report.
