Description

Studies have estimated that transit travel demand between NJ and Manhattan will increase by 38% by 2030. The Access to the Regionäó»s Core commuter rail project was designed to help meet that rising demand. In Oct. 2010, the governor of NJ, citing potential cost growth and the stateäó»s fiscal condition, withdrew state support and cancelled the project. The project was to be partially funded under the FTAäó»s New Starts program. This report examined: (1) what would have been the mobility, economic, and environ. benefits of the project; (2) the project cost estimate over time; and (3) how documents prepared as part of the New Starts process addressed potential cost growth for the project. Charts and tables. This is a print on demand report.
