Description
This report shows trends and group differences in current marital status, with a focus on first marriages among women and men aged 15-44 in the U.S. Trends and group differences in the timing and duration of first marriages are also discussed. Data are compared with similar measures for 1982, 1995, and 2002. Results show that in 2006-10, women and men married for the first time at older ages than in previous years; the median age at first marriage was 25.8 for women and 28.3 for men. Premarital cohabitation, which has nearly tripled since 1982, contributed to the delay in first marriage for both women and men. Figures and tables. This is a print on demand edition of an important, hard-to-find report.
