Description
On April 5, 2010, a massive coal dust explosion occurred at the Upper Big Branch Mine-South. Twenty-nine miners were killed and two miners were seriously injured in the most deadly U.S. coal mine disaster in nearly 40 years. The MSHA determined that the explosion occurred because Performance Coal Co. and its parent co., Massey Energy Co., violated fundamental safety standards and failed to take corrective actions to prevent the explosion. This review compares MSHA actions with the requirements of the Mine Act, applicable standards and regäó»s., and MSHA policies and procedures. It also evaluates the effectiveness of MSHA standards, regäó»s., policies, and procedures. Illustrations. This is a print on demand report.
