Description

by Francis R. Packard, M.D., Editor of the Annals of Medical History (au).
It seems appropriate today to glance at the membership of the Library Company in 1742 when its members applied for and obtained a charter. We will find that the most cultivated and intellectual citizens of Philadelphia were its chief supporters, some of them having been among the founders, and the fact that they were not only prominent in the affairs of the Library Company but in other public enterprises will emphasize their importance in the community. (Philadelphia: The Library Company of Philadelphia, 1942.)
