Description   Martin Avery Snyder (au) Shelled mollusks are organisms important to the study of evolution, since upon death they leave behind a calcareous exoskeleton. Though molluscan fossils are sometimes nothing more than the molds formed by vanished specimens, most still bear the form of shells, often of extinct species.
