Description
Stephen C. Joseph & Linda Rosenstock. During the 14-year period 1980 through 1993, 27,070 men & women died while serving on active duty in the four branches of the U.S. military -- an average of 1,934 per year, about 5/day. The majority of deaths were from unintentional injuries that occurred during their day-to-day activities (about 60%). This report provides a detailed summary of the causes of these deaths, including all causes -- unintentional injury, disease & illness, suicide & homicide. The deaths are examined by demographic variables, including age, gender & race, both by individual service & collectively for all services. Charts & tables.
