Hospital Discharge Survey (NHDS) & the Nat. Survey of Ambulatory Surgery. The NHDS, conducted annually since 1965, provides estimates of hospital utilization by inpatients. Data in this report include numbers & rates of procedures & of discharges for ambulatory surgery patients & inpatients by sex, age, & geographic region. Lists of frequently performed procedures are provided for total procedures, surgical & nonsurgical procedures, gender, & age groups, with additional data on category & location.
