Automated Welfare Systems: Historical Costs & Projections

This report determines the extent to which states are developing & implementing automated information systems for federally supported welfare programs. Currently, the Federal participation rate to support states development & operation of automated systems, including the development of replacement systems is at least 50%. Consequently, the Federal government may pay the largest share of an estimated $10.7 billion in additional automated system costs projected from fiscal year 1993 through the end of the decade.
