Listening to Children Read Aloud -- Grade 4
Gay S. Pinnell, John J. Pikulski, Karen K. Wixson, & Jay R. Campbell. An investigation of 4th graderís oral reading abilities, which involved individual interviews with a subgroup of 4th graders. A description of studentsí oral reading fluency in light of of the accuracy & rate with which they read, & their overall literacy development. Results: 55% of 4th graders were considered to be fluent in reading a portion of one narrative text. However, only 13% could be described as consistently reading with appropriate phrasing & with at least minimal expressiveness -- the highest degree of fluency rated. Interview Guide. Tables.
