Eileen Poe-Yamagata & Jeffrey A. Butts. Analyzes patterns in the arrest, judicial management, & correctional placement of female offenders. Citing data from diverse sources, females are entering the juvenile justice system more frequently & at younger ages. The relative growth in juvenile arrests involving females was more than double the growth for males between 1989 & 1993. While juvenile arrests for violent crime increased 33% for males during that period, they increased 55% for females. The ratio of male juvenile arrests to female juvenile arrests declined from 8 to 1 in 1989 to 6 to 1 in 1993.
