Description
Karl Sabbagh. The Isle of Rum is situated off the coast of Scotland. It attracted a Brit. botanist, John Harrison. In the 1940s he announced the discovery of several species of rare plants on the island. These unusual finds helped make Harrison’s mark as an outstanding scientist, but many botanists suspected these discoveries had been fabricated in order to enhance the prof’s. reputation. John Raven infiltrated one of Harrison’s expeditions to Rum. The report he produced after that visit accused the prof. of systematic & persistent fabrication of his evidence, but rather than allow his suspicions to destroy the prof’s. career, Raven buried the report. Sabbagh investigated Harrison’s botanical hoax, unearthed buried doc’s., & explored the odd relationship between the two.
