The objectives were to determine the efficacy, safety, & cost-effectiveness of cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) in adults with symptomatic CHF. This report concludes that in patients with NYHA Class III or IV CHF despite med. mgmt., reduced ejection fractions, & prolonged QRS duration, CRT improves functional & hemodynamic markers & reduces morbidity/mortality. However, the cost-effectiveness of CRT remains uncertain. Illustrations.
