Description
Gordon W. Rudd (au). An Army operational study of a humanitarian intervention. The Kurds of northern Iraq had revolted against Saddam Hussein in the aftermath of Oper. Desert Storm, only to be suppressed & forced to flee into Turkey. In response to the international outcry, the U.S. spearheaded the relief effort designated Operation Provide Comfort, a joint & multinational endeavor that involved U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy, & Marine Corps formations as well as military contingents from a dozen other countries. The objectives were to stop the suffering & dying & to return the refugees safely to northern Iraq. The Operation achieved its assigned tasks & became a model for the more demanding Amer.-led efforts that followed in Somalia, in Haiti, & in the Balkans. Maps & photos.
