Changing Face of Organized Crime in New Jersey: A Status Report
Francis E. Schiller (ed). Despite recent heavily publicized prosecutions, organized crime (OC) is alive in NJ, & the criminal underworld continues to evolve & thrive. The demand for illicit goods & services provided by criminal enterprises has not diminished, while the tools, techniques, weaponry & personnel employed to satisfy & maintain that demand have become more sophisticated & dangerous. The NJ Comm. of Invest. undertake a thorough assessment of the changing nature & threat of OC. There were 26 witnesses during a 2-day public hearing on April 29 & 30, 2003. Methods of controlling OC must change drastically to wage a winnable war against drugs, to deter terrorism from within & without, & to thwart entrenched & emerging OC enterprises.
