Description
Gregory Linteris (au). This project;s purpose was to: (a) identify which metal species would be effective flame inhibitors, & then (b) attempt to find non-toxic forms of the metal which could be used. Early in the project, however, it was determined that metal species -- in any form -- might not be effective in practical flames. This was a major finding, & hence an add’l. objective became: (c) determining the reasons for the unexpected low effect. of Fe(CO)5 in cup-burner flames. Chapters: Inhibition by Other Organometallics: Tin & Manganese; Water with Metal Additives; Cup Burner Flame Extinction Tests with Metal Compounds; Laser Scattering Experiments of Particles in Fe(CO)5-Inhibited Flames; Premixed Flames; Tech. Problems; Recommendations; & Conclusions.
