Review of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program
Clark Kent Ervin (pf). An assessment of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG) established by the Dept. of Homeland Security. It is based on interviews with employees & officials of relevant agencies & institutions, direct observations, & a review of applicable documents. The AFG program identifies fire depít. that lack the tools & resources necessary to protect the health & safety of firefighting personnel & the public they serve, & provides direct financial assistance to meet these needs. Grants are awarded annually to eligible fire depít. that address the programís priorities, demonstrate financial need, & maximize the benefits to be derived from the grant funds. In FY 2003, Congress appropriated $750 million for the programís implementation.
