Description

Christopher Allen (au); Jorgen S. Nielsen (au). Following the terrorist attacks in the U.S. on 11 Sept., a reporting system was implemented on potential anti-Islamic reactions in the 15 European Union (EU) Member States. This report, based on 15 country reports, presents a comparative analysis of acts of aggression & changes in attitudes towards Muslims & other minority groups across the EU in the wake of 11 Sept. Its findings show that Islamic communities & other vulnerable groups have become targets of increased hostility since 11 Sept., although attempts to allay fears sometimes led to a new interest in Islamic culture & to practical interfaith initiatives. The report’s recommendations are drawn from examples of good practice in overcoming fears & tackling prejudice.
