Description
Eva Thalhammer (a.); Beate Winkler (preface). In 1997 -- the European year against racism -- results from a Eurobarometer survey were presented, measuring the majority of the population’s attitudes in the 15 European Union (EU) States. This report presents the results from the 2000 follow-up survey, which show that in some ways the attitudes towards minority & migrant groups have changed for the better. For instance, an increasing number of people favor policies designed to improve the coexistence of majorities & minorities. But there has also been an increase of people worrying about unemployment, loss of social welfare & drop in educational standards & who blame minorities for the changes. The data show that rejecting cultural diversity is closely related to the fear of socioeconomic changes.
