Description
George W. Housner (ed.). Presents the rationale & framework for the U.S. Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction (USDNDR), commencing in 1990. Such a Decade would initiate an integrated U.S. program in natural hazard reduction & would form the U.S. contribution to the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction (IDNDR), also to begin in 1990. As set forth by the U.N., the IDNDR will focus on earthquakes, windstorms (cyclones, tornadoes, typhoons, hurricanes), tsunamis (“tidal waves”), floods, landslides, volcanic eruptions, wildfires, & insect infestations. All of these hazards threaten the U.S. & have caused many notable disasters. Both the risks & consequences of disasters can be expected to intensify unless concerted action is taken.
