National Strategy for Homeland Security
George W. Bush (foreword). On Oct. 8, 2001, Pres. George W. Bush established the office of Homeland Security within the White House, & as its first responsibility, directed it to produce the first National Strategy for Homeland Security. This Strategy is the product of more than 8 months of intense consultation. The purpose of this Strategy is to mobilize & organize our Nation to secure the U.S. homeland from terrorist attacks. The strategy establishes a foundation upon which to organize our efforts & provides initial guidance to prioritize the work ahead. The strategic objectives of homeland security in order of priority are to: prevent terrorist attacks within the U.S.; reduce America’s vulnerability to terrorism; & minimize the damage & recover from attacks that do occur.
