U.S.-Japan Joint Optoelectronics Project 1992-2001: Final Report
Hiroyoshi Yajima & Judson C. French. In 1990, U.S. Govít. agencies & rep. of Japanís MITI discussed U.S. participation in Japanís Real World Computing program. In 1992, the U.S. & Japan engaged in feasibility studies on coop. in optoelectronic (OE) technologies, & in 1994 a U.S.-Japan Joint Mgmt. Comm. provided ongoing mgmt. of the project. Project goals: improve the avail. of novel prototype OE devices, circuits, & modules by providing the users with access to leading edge OE fabrication facilities; stimulate R&D activity in OE for computing in both the U.S. & Japan & encourage commercialization; & develop a model for U.S.-Japan coop. research. This report summarizes the activities for 9 years of this project. Tables.
