Telecommunications: Many Broadcasters Will Not Meet May 2002 Digital Television (DTV) Deadline

DTV enables broadcasters (BC) to offer their viewers clearer, sharper pictures & a wider range of broadcast services than are possible with analog tech. This transition to DTV was mandated by Congress & the FCC, with 2006 as the target date for ending analog trans. This report provides info. on: (1) BC progress in building DTV stations, as well as BC perceptions of consumer interest in DTV & BC plans for developing & marketing DTV content; (2) the experiences among BC who have & have not completed the bldg. of their DTV stations; & (3) the extent to which there are concerns about meeting DTV deadlines.
