Description
Ross C. Devol. Analyzes the impact of the September 11 attacks on all 315 U.S. metro statistical areas. Using econometric models to examine each metro area’s economic trends prior to Sept. 11 & the effect upon the industries they rely upon since then, the long-term employ. losses for each metro area was computed. The results are then compared to a baseline -- the state of the economy had there not been a terrorist attack & taking a mild recession into account. Metro areas across the U.S. will lose 1.6 million jobs in 2002, relative to the absence of a terrorist attack. The metros most vulnerable to job losses are those that rely heavily on the travel & tourism industry, & related businesses, such as airlines, hotels & dining.
