Plan for the Assessment of the Occurrence, Status, & Distribution of Volatile Organic Compounds in Aquifers of the U.S.
Wayne W. Lapham & Saeid Tadayori. The occurrence of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in water is of nat. concern because of their high aqueous solubility, mobility, & persistence. Many are known or suspected carcinogens, esp. since they have been found in drinking-water supplies. VOCs were selected for nat. invest. in 1994. This report describes the invest. of VOCs in ground water, which has 3 objectives: to describe their occurrence, status, & dist.; to determine relations among VOCs in shallow ground water & natural & human factors; & to determine, compare, & contrast the occurrence, transform., transport, & fate of selected VOCs in the hydrologic cycle for several regionally or nationally important aquifer systems.
