Epidemic/Epizootic West Nile Virus in the U.S.: Revised Guidelines for Surveillance, Prevention, & Control
Duane J. Gubler (ed.). This is a report from a workshop co-sponsored by the CDC, the Assoc. of Public Health Labs., & other Fed. agencies. In late summer 1999, the first domestically acquired human cases of West Nile (WN) encephalitis were documented in the U.S. This workshop was held to develop a comprehensive nat. response plan. Attendees included arbovirologists, epidemiologists, laboratorians, vector-control specialists, wildlife biologists, & state & local health & ag. officials. They reviewed year 2000 WN virus activity, & evaluated the outcomes of recommended surveillance, prevention & control activities. Based on the results of this meeting, modified guidelines were formulated.
