Child Care: States Increased Spending on Low-Income Families

Since the enactment of the PRWPR Act of 1996, child care (CC) has become one of several services provided by states to support low-income families in their efforts to find & retain jobs. How are states spending CC funds provided through the TANF block grant & the Child Care & Develop. Fund (CCDF) block grant. This report addresses: (1) CC expend. by states under the CCDF & TANF block grants; (2) the type of CC selected by families who receive subsidies with these funds & the mechanisms by which states provide CC subsidies to eligible families; & (3) statesí priorities in providing CC subsidies to low-income families & their views about the adequacy of the current levels of funding for CC.
